At SAD as well as at the University in Lausanne: Helen enjoys trying to improve life for young people.

What was your role at SAD?

I was Director of Programmes for SAD, responsible for the programmes in South Sudan and Nepal.

What is the best memory you have of your time at SAD?

My favourite memories of SAD are discussions with the team in the kitchen, picnics in the garden and my beautiful light-filled office that Gatsby the dog was allowed to share with us! I also have fond memories of my trips to Nepal and South Sudan with Malika and Pia – particularly seeing them growing in confidence and taking on more responsibility for managing the projects.

Where do you work now and what do you do?

I’m now working as Head of Student Affairs at the EPFL university in Lausanne. Many of my tasks are similar to those carried out at SAD – managing a team, solving problems, using diplomacy in an intercultural environment and generally trying to improve life for young people. I’m enjoying the opportunity to have direct contact with students, as well as working at a strategic level. My time at SAD provided useful experience for my current role.
