Gender and Development is Marianne's core topic – already back then when she was working for SAD.

What was your role at SAD?

I worked as a researcher and project manager at SAD, in sport and development. My main focus was on sport and diversity, specifically gender. Among other things, I led the ‘Football for Hope’ project, concentrating on football and monitoring & evaluation. Within these areas, I ran workshops and surveys with partner organisations, mainly in eastern and southern Africa, but I also worked in Europe, Sri Lanka, Morocco and Columbia.

What is the best memory you have of your time at SAD?

It is difficult to choose one memory from this intensive period. SAD influenced me in a lot of ways. Internally, the fantastic team spirit and the idyllic Lindenhof with the garden as a lovely backdrop. Externally, the numerous trips to countries I didn’t know opened new horizons for me. Learning by doing and so on!

Where do you work now and what do you do?

Now, I have two jobs: I work for Terre des Hommes International on the Children Win campaign, which works on human rights, in particular children’s rights, through sport mega-events. I am also a lecturer and researcher at the University of Bern’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies, in the areas of Gender and Development.
